PM Modi Set Vision Of 2047 NITI Aayog CEO Announces in January | Launching Viksit Bharat @2047

In a significant move towards shaping India’s future, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi is scheduled to launch the ‘Viksit Bharat 2047‘ vision document at the end of January. This comprehensive plan, crafted by NITI Aayog, outlines ambitious goals, including a projected per capita Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of $17,590, investments totaling Rs 1,273 trillion, and a target literacy rate of 90 percent by 2047.

NITI Aayog CEO, BVR Subrahmanyam, revealed that the central think tank is in the final stages of consolidating reports from various sectoral groups to formulate the blueprint for ‘Viksit Bharat 2047.’ This vision aims to propel India into a developed economy with a staggering $30 trillion GDP by 2047.

The official launch of the campaign, titled ‘Viksit Bharat @2047: Voice of Youth,’ is set for Monday, with Prime Minister Modi addressing vice-chancellors, heads of institutes, and faculty members in virtual workshops organized nationwide. During this youth engagement initiative, students are encouraged to share their views through a dedicated web portal, open until mid-January.

The vision document, to be unveiled by PM Modi, includes macroeconomic projections foreseeing a trade deficit of nearly $3.5 trillion in 2047, driven by exports reaching $8.67 trillion and imports totaling $12.12 trillion.

The comprehensive planning for ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’ began in December 2021, with the formation of 10 sectoral groups addressing key areas such as rural and agriculture, infrastructure, resources, social vision, welfare, finance and economy, commerce and industry, technology, governance, and security and foreign affairs.

The vision is rooted in the belief that India will have effectively addressed its post-independence challenges in the next 25 years, paving the way for new hurdles. A notable concern is the risk of a middle-income trap, where per capita income could plateau at $5,000-6,000, leading to a slowdown in economic growth.

Encompassing various facets of development, including economic growth, social progress, environmental sustainability, and good governance, the vision has not been without criticism. Some argue that it may be premature to discuss India as a potential superpower, emphasizing the need to first address pressing issues such as poverty, marginalization, and unemployment.

Congress leader Shashi Tharoor, citing current challenges like inflation and unemployment, expressed skepticism, stating, “In these circumstances, to paint fantasies of a distant future that is 25 years from now is a bit unfortunate.”

In summary, the impending launch of ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’ signifies a significant milestone in India’s strategic planning for the next quarter-century, with the Prime Minister set to unveil the ambitious vision at the end of January.
